Student volunteers (SVs) are essential to ACM Interactive Health 2026 (IH 2026). Volunteering gives you a chance to help run the conference, meet researchers and practitioners in HCI & health, make professional connections, and gain conference experience – all while attending sessions and events.

In this inaugural year of IH, we are accepting both in-person and online SVs. Please choose the modality you can reliably attend when applying.

Important Dates

Volunteer application (author's timeline):

  • Deadline to apply: 22 March 2026, AoE
  • Applicants informed (accept/waitlist): 25 March 2026, AoE

Conference: July 5–8, 2026 (Porto)All deadlines are midnight Anywhere on Earth (AoE).

Becoming a Volunteer

To register, you must be enrolled as an undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral student for at least one semester/quarter of the 2025–2026 academic year, and you must be 18 years of age or older by the start of the conference. No prior experience is required to apply, but we are looking for reliable, enthusiastic, and friendly people.

It is your own responsibility to obtain the necessary travel visas if required. Please be aware that the visa application process should begin shortly after the prospective notification of acceptance.

What will I do as a Volunteer?

As an SV, you agree to:

  • Work ~15 hours across the conference period (before, during, and/or after the conference) as assigned.
  • Attend orientation meeting (virtual or in-person, depending on modality).
  • In-person: be present at assigned in-person posts (e.g., registration desk, room monitoring, AV & session support, poster setup, demo/exhibit support, event ushering, student lounge).
  • Online: have a reliable internet connection, a quiet workspace, and a webcam/headset during assigned shifts; attend the virtual orientation and be available for the remote shifts (e.g., virtual registration/chat moderation, live session Q&A moderation, poster/demo liaison, and accessibility/transcription).
  • Arrive in Porto by the morning of July 4, 2026, at the latest, to attend orientation and pre-conference briefings. Plan your return trip after the conference ends and the venue is cleared at the end of the day on July 8th.
